"It will be a giant field robot." -Chief Executive Officer at Valmont Industries (Valmont acquires startup Prospera for $300 million)
New Fieldbot PRECISION UPGRADES universally add more reliability, capability, precision, and intelligence to any existing “start-stop move” irrigation pivot.
These smartly repurposed ultra-high-speed "constant move" irrigation pivots, when newly used to more effectively apply costly crop protectants, e.g., pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, as all-electric, autonomous alternatives to conventional petroleum-based application methods such as ground sprayers and aircraft, provide a massive ROI (return on investment) to the customer resulting from significantly higher crop yields at much lower production costs with no gas or diesel emissions.
HIGH-VALUE CROP AUTONOMY
“For commercial growers of high-value potato crops, the single greatest ‘pain point’ is the application of crop protectants. As for prescribing the right product-market fit to fulfill this unmet need, Fieldbot PRECISION UPGRADES are those rare must-have ‘painkillers’ in a vast sea of nice-to-have AgTech vitamins.”
An astonishing one-half of the total irrigated crop acres in the U.S. are under irrigation pivots, the leading form of all agricultural irrigation methods, including drip irrigation and surface flood or gravity-fed irrigation.
Irrigation pivots, or simply "pivots", also referred to as center pivot irrigation systems or centre pivot irrigation systems, are large, self-propelled overhead sprinkler systems used in row crop agriculture that move in a circular pattern around a central pivot point connected to a center-fed pressurized irrigation water source.
Irrigation pivots are capable of (1) irrigation, the practice of applying water to soil and crops, (2) fertigation, the practice of applying nitrogen fertilizer and other nutrients to soil and crops via direct injection into the center-fed pressurized irrigation water source, and (3) chemigation, the practice of applying both chemical and biological crop protection products, also referred to as crop protectants, to soil and crops via direct injection into the center-fed pressurized irrigation water source. Similar mechanized irrigation systems also include linear irrigation systems, or simply "linears", and lateral move irrigation systems, or simply "laterals".
The TAM (total addressable market) for Fieldbot PRECISION UPGRADES is estimated to be over $20 billion just in the modernizing of the more than 600,000 slow, unreliable, imprecise, electromechanically driven “start-stop move” irrigation pivots, driven by over 4,000,000 legacy fixed-speed electric powertrains, watering over 100 row crop varieties in 100 countries worldwide.
ADDING MORE CAPABILITY AND PRECISION AT SCALE
Today, there exists a unique opportunity to advance worldwide row crop agriculture toward more sustainable, abundant, profitable, and environmentally and climate-friendly farming methods using modern Fieldbot PRECISION UPGRADES that easily and cost-effectively retrofit onto conventional large-scale agriculture equipment already placed and operating in a global agriculture equipment aftermarket.
Benefits of upgrading to ultra-high-speed constant move include:

ADVANCING NEXT-GENERATION PROPRIETARY CONTROLS
The custom and exclusive Fieldbot MOCB (motor optimization controller board) is at the core of all Fieldbot PRECISION UPGRADES.
This next-generation Intelligent Tower™ networked digital technology platform utilizes proprietary hardware and software to maintain synchronous system alignment at the full range of low to ultra-high irrigation pivot speeds via patented variable-speed motor control performance optimization.
The Fieldbot MOCB uniquely enables manual remote tower-by-tower drive control and smart diagnostics to identify and alert individual wheel tower "safety out" faults whenever the system unexpectedly shuts down.
In addition, to further improve overall system reliability, the first-of-its-kind Ethernet networked architecture enables real-time machine health monitoring with continuous uploading of electric motor data utilizing Starlink high-speed internet connectivity, all while maintaining critical machine functions with over-the-air programming, remote supervisory control of every Fieldbot MOCB on the network, and onboard GPS for position-based predictive analytics (U.S. Patent 10,384,557) at each wheel tower of every machine.
ACHIEVING PRODUCT-MARKET FIT WITH UNIVERSAL COMPATIBILITY
Over the last several years, with a well-seasoned, industry-expert team and extensive talent ecosystem, Fieldbot developed, patented, and implemented a highly profitable “constant move” power electronics Fieldbot MOC (motor optimization controller) powered by an Intelligent Tower™ networked digital technology platform. Combining the Fieldbot MOC with an electric motor and gears results in the mechanized irrigation industry’s first fully integrated powertrain system.
"Seven independent fixed-speed electric powertrain products drive today's conventional seven-tower irrigation pivot. Tomorrow's next-generation irrigation pivot, of any size, will be universally driven by a single networked variable-speed electronic powertrain system."
PACKAGING EVERYTHING NEEDED INTO A SINGLE SKU
"An irrigation pivot is just 'pipe on wheels' until you give it a drive unit. Fieldbot is the future EDU (electric drive unit), comprised of motor, gears, and power electronics, of every new and existing irrigation pivot everywhere."
The Fieldbot MOC with ultra-high-speed electric motor equipment package is a single SKU that is 100% compatible with all brands, makes, and models of irrigation pivots, including all OEM main panel and tower box controls.
This unique one-of-a-kind feature of the new Fieldbot MOC requires absolutely no change to the existing irrigation pivot controls, including the percent timer, overwatering timer, safety microswitch, and industry-standard "start-stop move" microswitch, nor the addition of any costly analog sensors and tower alignment hardware (U.S. Patent 10,130,054, U.S. Patent 10,165,741). The Fieldbot MOC utilizes all existing irrigation pivot OEM main panel and tower box controls, span cables, power wires, control wires, and safety circuits.
UNIVERSALLY REPURPOSING ANY IRRIGATION PIVOT
Fieldbot PRECISION UPGRADES are low-cost, simple-to-use, easy-to-maintain, and non-invasively interface with all brands of mechanical and computerized main panels and remote telemetry systems. Now with only one component for 2x speed or two components for up to 10x speed to install onto the base beam of each wheel tower, installation time is only a short "one hour per tower". Best of all, all legacy controls remain fully intact, and no unused components ever need to leave the field if renting ground or rotating crops.
In addition, Fieldbot PRECISION UPGRADES include two new proprietary safety features at the ground level of each wheel tower:
Fieldbot PRECISION UPGRADES are the ultimate sustainable solution for universally repurposing any irrigation pivot over any row crop anywhere.
BUILDING A PROPRIETARY DATA CHANNEL FROM A FLEET OF AUTONOMOUS CROP DATA HARVESTERS
As part of the end tower Fieldbot MOC and located up on top of the span pipe directly above the crop, the Fieldbot CDM (crop data module) continually uploads to the cloud, via an on-pivot Starlink dish, high-quality crop data, captured in real time with hi-res cameras and multispectral sensors, in a unique "crop data ring" layer.
AUTONOMOUS CROP IMAGING
Also included standard with all Fieldbot PRECISION UPGRADES, the Fieldbot CDM acts as a "24/7 crop scout" throughout the entire growing season, providing real-time agronomic insights on crop health, crop area, canopy cover, canopy height, stand count, height and lodging, residual cover, flower cover, and more.
